It is the most wonderful time of the year already! The year is almost coming to an end, yet this is my favorite season. So much joy and happiness all around us and the holidays with kids is even more meaningful to me now. As a family we cannot wait to continue on our old Holiday traditions and start new ones with our kids. Giving Back
During the holidays I think it is important to show kindness and appreciation for what we have right now. We have to be generous with our blessings. Which is why this is a tradition I want to keep doing now and in the future years to come. In the past I have purchased a few toys and donated them to our local toy drives and to our past photographer who collected them and donated all new toys to a nearby charity. This year I want to do things a little different and get both the oldest kids involved by letting them pick out the toys of their choice to give to those in need.
Making them part of this will be special in many ways. One they will feel they are making a difference in someone else’s life this Christmas and second is a great lesson for young children to see the value in the small things they already have. Another great way is collecting all your old coats and clothes you no longer use and donating them to Goodwill or a homeless shelter. I know throughout the year I find a lot of clothes that belong to the kids with tags still attached yet they no longer fit so we make sure to include those too in our donation bags.
Do Crafts
In the past years I have hosted a Gingerbread House Party. It is always messy, a little chaotic, but overall so fun. The kids get dressed in their favorite matching holiday pjs and we invite friends over and indulged in all the sweets we can have. Along with a sweets candy table and cookies and cake. It’s every kids dream all together!
Decorate the House
For sure this is my favorite thing to do and what the kids look forward to it once December comes around. In reality our tree is the focal point for several weeks at our home. I mean I keep it up for as long as I can. Until mid January if possible. I have special ornaments that I have kept through the years now ever since Ryan started school. Those are the most fun to look back on. Our babies grow up so fast but the memories made there will continue to stay the same no matter how old they get.
Dress for the Holidays
Whether you are all about matching with holiday pjs for Christmas Eve or preparing for your annual holiday photo it is always on the list to capture these special moments with a photo session. When planning our photos for holiday cards I always focus first on picking an outfit for me first and work on the colors we will be using and go on from there. It is easier if you start with “mom” first and continue on with the “dad” outfit next and go through around with each kid last. Makes it so much easier and helps for everyone to coordinate well.
