OUR MASTER BEDROOM MAKEOVER BEFORE + AFTER
Thank you to Exclusive Furniture / Tempur -Pedic / Rugs USA for sponsoring this post.
I am so happy to share this room with you all. It took a long time for it to get where it is now and although I know it is not 100% done yet ( I still need curtains, a light fixture, lamps, and a few accent pieces for a pop of color) However despite all those small details I am pleased with how it is coming along. I shared a few stories on IG a couple of weeks ago and it has been a whole transformation from how it looked before to now. It is a small update within a reasonable budget with small DIY here and there that you can do yourself at home.
But first, let me start with the back story of this room. It had been more than 3 years now since we last slept here back in 2016. I cannot believe it took us that long. Mostly it was us putting it at the bottom of our priorities on things to get done in our ever ending list of house updates. Back in 2016 we woke up one night in early March after having a date night and staying out too late to a ceiling pouring in water from our main master bedroom to my closet leading to our bedroom. We were so deep in sleep that it took a while for us to hear it let alone feel it. It was a complete nightmare to say the least. Our water heater that was above in our attic had started to leak. Turns out it was on recall and no one send out a warning letter or notice to advice us to look into this ASAP and fix the problem. It ended up damaging our bathroom, my closet, and down to our main living room downstairs and our game room walls.
That month that followed we had so much to take care of. Luckily our home insurance referred us to a company that was able to repair the walls, carpet and ceilings right away those following weeks. We had to get new living room furniture – which became top of our list since that was an important family area for us and our kids. However we ended up moving out from our master bedroom to our downstairs guest room. Fast forward to 3 years later and we were still there (yes I admit we got too comfortable there) and our main bedroom became an abandoned room over time. The furniture there became outdated & old and we even gave our mattress that was in good shape to a family member. The walls needed new color and a major clean up since it fell to the bottom of the priority list.
BEFORE
Here is a look at the room from before and what it looked like after we moved out from it. It consisted of dark furniture that made the room look smaller than what it was and although there is plenty of windows it still felt dark and gloomy and overly crowded.
THE PROCESS & SOME DIY
When I first decided it was time we tackled that room once and for all I really wanted to get wood floors and remove the carpet we have had for the past 8 years since we first build our house. Obviously I had to set a budget for myself and realistically see what I could and couldn’t afford to do. We gave away our old furniture ( again to another family member). Once the room was cleared and I went over numbers and cost I realized I could only afford so little to change this room and the best choice with my small budget was getting my carpet cleaned. So I hired a local company who deep cleaned and steamed my carpet and saved a ton going that route. We also painted the room ourselves and figured we will save money that way. The color I went with is Sherwin Williams Light Beige. And the shelves we retouched along with the bay window seating area that was completely destroyed from when the kids were younger.
SELECTING FURNITURE
Next was the most important part of all FURNITURE SHOPPING. Actually the funnest part if you ask me. If you can see with the “before” my style has changed a lot from 8 years ago. I wanted to create a more “adult” feel with a feminine touch yet something that still pleased my husband at the same time. I was going for a more lighter tone that would open up our bedroom and showcase our bay window area. We shopped in the Cypress area and ultimately went with EXCLUSIVE FURNITURE.
Exclusive Furniture made us feel right at home and were so helpful the day we visited to make our top selections. They make a houseful of furniture affordable to every family in the Houston area ( with 8 locations all around). They really are a best price guarantee, with beautiful quality products and top-tier customer satisfaction that won us over instantly. It is really home of where low prices live!
One of my favorite things I discovered about this nightstand besides the traditional elegance it brings to the room with an oak panel gracing top and lovely antique bronze hardware is it is so spacious to store things inside is it also bet of all has a night light that you can turn on and lights up from the bottom along with an attached station on the back for phone charging.
UPGRADING TO A KING MATTRESS
We also partner with Tempur-Pedic and upgraded to a KING mattress for the first time. The change from a Queen to a King has been smoothly, so amazing and quite frankly I never want to go back. I cannot say enough about our new TEMPUR-breeze° . It is the only breeze® mattress that is cool when you lie down, cool when you fall asleep, and cool ALL. NIGHT. LONG. My husband and I have been sleeping so good ever since it arrived. And I am no longer complaining about feeling hot at night, even with this Texas heat.

The rug is one of my favorite pieces from this room. It ties with the overall Ivory color scheme that I was going for and a perfect blend to the furniture. This Ivory Diamond Textured Trellis Tassel Waffell rug is an 5 x 8 and it is currently 45% off at RUGS USA.
Also adding accessories can really brighten up a room and you can never go wrong with plants everywhere for some greenery detail to the room that yells cozy and inviting. So far I am so happy coming to this room everyday after so many years we did miss our spacious room. I still have a few more things to add like I had mentioned at the beginning but if I waited until it was “perfect” you guys would be here waiting forever. I am hoping to find a bed set cover that matches the airy white colors I am going for until then this will have to do. Can’t wait to update you guys with more room makeovers along the way.
Oh my gosh I love this makeover! I’m a huge fan of whites/creams but deathly afraid of getting it all dirty. Looks great!
This bedroom is beautiful! It is definitely inspiring me to redo our bedroom!
