Why I decided to get Veneers
This is absolutely one of the most vulnerable post I have shared in a while. It is so hard and scary to open up in the internet to strangers who judge you for what you do without knowing where your heart really stands. But I felt it was important to share my smile makeover story. Over the past decade, okay more like since my late high school years I have struggled with my self confidence because of my smile. It has made me feel less than, ugly, and even felt like I wasn’t good enough to those around me.
Sharing these feelings are hard because I should not “feel” this way but I had moments where small comments from others around me hurt me. I still remember being young when a family member told me “your teeth are ugly, you need braces.” She was a little kid but man was she just being brutally honest.
I remember I blamed my parents for so many years for not getting me braces and I was just so angry because I felt they didn’t do something to help me while I was “young”. Looking back now I realize maybe they just couldn’t afford it. And now I know that is OKAY. My entire life I have hide behind my smile and you can ask everyone around me. I would make my husband and my friends take pictures from certain angles and I had to approve of them before they even thought about posting it. I am guilty of editing every picture to make sure my smile wasn’t noticeable and I would never take a selfie up close NEVER. As my adult years started I became more self conscious about my smile and even more now when I expose myself online.
Finding Smile Texas
So a year ago in early 2019 I found Smile Texas while browsing “veneers” online and I noticed how they were local in the Houston area. Sugar land area to be precise and the amazing reviews that follow them sold me right away. They offered complimentary consultations, so I went as nervous as I was I made the drive and showed up. They were so welcoming and for once gave me the boost of confidence I craved for so long. Dr. Davis and the whole Smile Texas team were so welcoming, friendly, and attentive. I was able to express my concerns, what I wanted and envisioned my smile to be.
Unfortunately when I got home I was immediately shut down by my husband and my parents. Again I felt like they didn’t understand me or validated my feelings. I felt so misunderstood. So I let them win and told myself I had to live with how I was.
The year came to an end and I realized soon I would be 30. And it hit me! I wish I didn’t let the fears and comments of others deprived me of being fully happy with my own self. I am human and it is perfectly okay to feel you deserve to be happy in the skin you are in. And if that means you make a decision to change something about yourself- then do it.
So here I am to say I did it. I did it for myself, for me, and only for me. And it feels so damn good to say it. This is my smile makeover story.
Veneers Q&A
I asked over on my Instagram stories if anyone had questions over the process and I would gladly answer. So here are a few I wanted to share.
Who is a Candidate for Veneers?
Anyone who is looking into changing and improving their smile is a candidate for veneers. Whether you need your top ten only or the top and bottom combined.
What is the cost?
That is all going to depend on your teeth and the smile you want. Whether that is you want to do your top only or your top and bottom. It will vary. The average cost is between $1000-$2000 per tooth. I decided to fix my top teeth, as that is what I struggled with the most. Dr. Davis does all 10 and will do less depending if it is a special case, but for most cases you are looking at 10 veneers. Smile Texas offers financing and payment options. Which is why is so important to take advantage of the free consultation.
How long is the process?
Smile Texas will accommodate and work with your schedule. If you are out of town they will do it within a week. It is only two visits. One to get the cleaning in, get your impressions, pick your color, set the temporaries in while they are being customized and made just for you. Second visit you will get your veneers prepped in.
I will update soon
I have my follow up appointment in about a week. So I will be posting a before and after photo for you guys to see. If you have any more questions that I can go more in detail with I will gladly do so. If you live in the Houston area I cannot recommend Smile Texas enough.
