Last month we celebrated nine years since we build our house. So I thought it was time to work on a small project at home- our living room. I did a budget friendly makeover to our living room with the help of Burkes Outlet. Everyone loves a good before and after right?
I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now but was afraid of change. I love bright, white, and neutral colors. I feel you can’t go wrong with that. But lately I’ve been obsessed with gray and the contrast of black. I still have a long list of things I’ll like to update. One of the biggest is my kitchen and bathrooms of course but figured I’ll do the room you see first when you walk in to our home. I wanted to share some simple ways that you can arrange and decorate your living room too.
SIMPLE WAYS TO DECORATE YOUR LIVING ROOM
PICK THE RIGHT COUCH FOR YOU
I contemplated back and forth for the longest on a sectional. Never thought my husband would persuade me to go for one. I always felt it made the room feel smaller and take all the space and take away the open concept I’ve always loved about our place. But as a family of five we needed more seating space to be comfortable all together while we hang out in this room whether that was to watch tv, have a movie night, or have company over.
COFFEE TABLE OR OTTOMAN
We had an ottoman in our center before but felt limited to what we can do with it. Within the first year the kids stained it when they would play, color, or snack there. There were several times that I needed to pay to get it deep cleaned. So it was a no brainier that a table was the best option. Surprisingly I went with black. It is different from the classic or rustic white tables I would usually go for. Plus there’s plenty of space and table layers for decor or storage of books.
I also added a black side table to match the coffee table. Its tall and long with lots of space for a lamp along side new table decor and picture frames.
ADD A RUG THAT CONNECTS AND PUTS THE ROOM TOGETHER
Your living room isn’t complete without a rug. Choosing the right one can be challenging depending on space. For a cohesive look, choose a rug size that allows for only the front legs of every piece of furniture in the grouping to be on the rug. Your living room shape, not just the furniture, should dictate the rug size and orientation to make the space look larger and feel connected. I knew my ideal rug will need to fit in with the color scheme of my sectional. I found a 8×10 at RUGS USA, it’s my go to shop for designer rugs of all sizes, colors, and exclusive deals.
