FAMILY GETAWAY AT HORSESHOE BAY RESORT

September 14, 2019

Horseshoe Bay Resort

A few weeks ago right before school started we surprised all three kids with a fun road trip close to Austin and stayed at Horseshoe Bay Resort for the first time. It is a stunning lakeside resort on lake LBJ in the Texas Hill Country and about 3 hours from Houston. A close getaway from home and a quick step to an oasis that feels that is thousands of miles away yet it is still here in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. Horseshoe Bay Resort is a genuine Texas hospitality spot with family friendly activities for kids of all ages.

FirstĀ  Day at Horseshoe Bay

Dinner at Lantana Restaurant & Bar

We started our first day checking in Sunday afternoon and headed to our room first and went straight to dinner at Lantana. They have food selections for everyone even for kids who are picky eaters- the pasta and mac and cheese was delicious and something I recommend for little ones.

After dinner we headed back to our room and changed to head out to the pool that was a minute or two away from our building. We stayed at the Palm Villas. If you are interested in more space than your typical hotel room and want to accommodate your big family this is perfect for you.

Palm Villas

Our room at the Palm Villas was walking distance from the main building. We had a two bedroom Villa with a Master bedroom and a second room for the kids with plenty of space for everyone to sleep in (two bonus huge bathrooms upstairs)

The Palm Villas also included a spacious kitchen downstairs (first thing you see when you walk in) next to the main stairs with a restroom downstairs followed by a dinning space and a huge spread out living room (couch is a pull out bed for an extra person) with your own patio included. This room is one of the pet friendly options at the Resort for a $75 fee.

Amenities

Pools

While there is no lazy river here there are three pools to choose from at Horseshoe Bay Resort that are open late with heated options for an all year round swimming.

  • Yacht Club Pool on Lake LBJ– the most popular location at the resort and it is open from 9AM-10PM on weekdays and closes at 11PM Friday- Saturday.
  • Tower Pool– the hotel pool right by the main tower building is heated and open from 6AM to 10PM on weekdays and closes at 11PM Friday-Saturday.
  • Paseo Pool– Opens at 6AM- 10PM on weekdays and closes at 11PM Friday- Saturday.
  • One of the largest hot tubs in Texas located at The Yacht Club

Jungle Kid’s Club

Something we enjoyed our first morning at the Resort was waking up late and ordering breakfast from Lantana which was brought up to our room quickly. We relaxed a little in our villa and headed to the Kid’s Club right after. It is open from 9AM to 5PM weekdays and 9AM-10PM Friday and Saturday. If your kids are 12 and under they are allowed here but must be fully potty trained if left without adults. If you make a reservation and with a fee included you are welcome to leave your child here for some adult time. The perfect child care while you step away for a few hours.

Horseshoe Bay Resort

My husband and I decided to stay while the kids did arts and crafts (parents are allowed to stay and there is no fee if you are supervising them) There is plenty for kids to do and stay cool on a two story jungle gym, basketball hoop section, and also a rock wall making it the perfect spot for kids big or small.

Golf

There are many options for golf course about six options to choose from when staying here. Horseshoe Bay Resort was selected as one of “America’s Best Golf Resorts”. If you love golfing and are passionate about it you will love Horseshoe Bay’s three award winning Robert Trent Jones Sr golf courses.

Explore

Strolling through the resort was my favorite thing to do. The whitewater amenity center is absolutely stunning and so peaceful to be away from it all. Exploring and seeing some of the exotic birds the resort has was Luke’s highlight of the day. It is the perfect spot to take a stroll after breakfast or an evening walk after dinner.

Sunset Cruise Around Lake LBJ

Our second day at the Resort we had a private sunset cruise planned out for us. A one hour cruise sailing through the waters of LBJ and it was incredible and breathtaking not just for myself but for the kids too. The full service marina offers different watercraft rentals including jet skis, paddle boards, pontoon boats, and kayaks.

Dinner at Waterfront Bar & Grill

We headed to dinner right after our boat ride right on the marina at their newest restaurant that had recently opened. The Waterfront Bar & Grill is over looking lake LBJ and offers fresh seafood with an amazing view. We all love seafood so it was the perfect choice and the shrimp and appetizers were delicious. This restaurant is definitely a must stop place while you are visiting the resort.

If you have a fun vacation planned for the holidays coming up or right before fall officially starts, check out Horseshoe Bay Resort for an amazing family staycation or a getaway if you are from Houston. Thank you Horseshoe Bay Resort for hosting us for the weekend, we cannot wait to come back next year!
